History of Kizhakke Covilakam (Malabar king Zamorin’s palace in Kottakkal) The story of Kizhakke Covilakam dates back to the fourteenth century when the Zamorin decided to set up separate palaces for two female members of the family. The first of them  Kizhakke Covilakam came up close to the Zamorin’s palace and the second, Puthiya Covilakam is not far from it to the west of the Tali tank.   Ramasimhan Murder case: A story of conversion and murder.  Yet another unknown chapter in Kerala history. Ramasimhan (sitting) A couple of decades after the large scale murder of Hindus by the Muslims of Kerala in 1921 , there was a celebrated murder that happened in Malappuram District just two weeks before independence on August 3 rd 1947. Uneen Sahib was a wealthy Muslim businessman. His father Moidu Saheeb had leased 600 acres of land from Kundrackal Nair family near Kodur in Malappuram (dt) and was running a successful rubber business. He had built a huge bungalow there named "malaparamba" and had used stones from the nearby dilapidated Narasimha temple to build it. Uneen Sahib also built a large palatial house in Chemmankadavu near Malappuram town. His residence in Chemmankadavu which still exists Muslims in the 1920s and 30s were very poor and being one of the few wealthy businessmen during that period he felt obliged to help them and did it generously. This month a movie named Marakkar the lion of the Arabian Sea will get released in theatres in Kerala. It is the story of a superhero named Kunjali Marakkar the naval commander of the Zamorins (the kings who ruled Malabar) who fought against the Portuguese in the 1500's. That reminded me of one of the superheroes I had growing up named Marakkar. He was no commander just an ordinary being in my grandmother’s village but an extremely good person at heart. Marakkar that I knew was fair-complexioned with light green eyes, well built with a face that would never stop grinning. He always wore a white sleeveless undershirt and a striped lungi with a large rexin (fake leather) belt that had several pockets and a small towel turban on his head.
